As is common whist practicing glassblowing, the possibility of failure from process error causing fatal damadge to my work allows me to explore new ways to envision my work and calls for unrelated experimentation in my practice. I take personal interest in Japanese practices and philosophy , often it plays a part in my instinct and desire for balance in my practice. The arts of kintsugi ( a philosophy which embraces human imperfection) and Wabi-sabi  ( which repects the beauty of simplicity and the value of the incomplete). Whilst this doesnt directly relate to my practice, the values behind these philosophies often wean their way into my life and practice.
This piece failed due to a weakness in the punty when transferring the glass bubble for shaping. When this piece was put into the lehr , it was too cold at the base and as a result caused a fracture throughout the piece. As the lehr cooled the piece cracked. I decided to experiment with sandblasting pieces of this to highlight the cracks. I pieced it back together temporarily .
The base shows the visible source of the crack. However when the vessel is stood upright, this is not noticeable and could be salvaged.
