This Pitch was proposed for the University Degree show in February 2025 as an opportunity to be comissioned to transfrom the Lowry Building on Manchester Metropolitan University’s Campus.

I have chosen the main entrance due to its containment from the rest of the space, I feel the ability to create a new environment in this space to explore the idea of a mini installation which provides an immersive first impression of the degree show and the vertical gallery space.

Korean born visual artist uses projection to encapsulate on environment in another, requiring new perspectives of a feeling or time period from the viewer. Here, light green leaves with light and willow tree use similar structures to immerse the viewer with nature from lee’s perspective. She suspends delicate materials to create depth and a sense of environment to the projections

A lattice structure of ceramic which is suspended loosely using eye and hooks creates a Façade of an otherwise bare room. Daphne Wright inspired me in Domestic Shrubbery which indulges in her delicate floral trellis which explores intricate victorian design and the maximalism in arts and craft designers like William morris whose trellis design is compared on the right.

Using examples of my own work and its development. I created relief prints which were inspired by William Morris’ trellis . The negative space in this excites me and I see resemblance to a garden trellis in its structure. I was able to use a laser cutter to attempt to create a trellis of my own and whist experimenting with shape was able to create structures which resemble a domesticated jungle and abundance of nature whilst being suggestive as to the plant and its origin.

The conceptual design above shows a 3D model of the space with the proposed area (shown in green) as installation. This would use designs based off my artist inspiration and concepts. My idea would be to blow up the design into a trellis which fills the space whilst connecting urban landscapes to nature.
I Plan to use manufactured vinyl on the windows and hand making a paper mural in the centre to hang across the concrete to display this
The following proposal costs are for section C.

Here are the steps of manufacture required for the window vinyls. I also wanted to compare steps taken if I was to manufacture this on campus

For manufacture of the vinyl panel it would. Be done in 3 individual segments per window . The total manufacture including vinyl and application tape would be £600. I have overestimated for size on the glass to allow for a contingency when applying.
I compared against cost and time It would take to manufacture on campus however I have chosen to externally manufacture due to time management alongside the degree show preparations.
The current manufacture would take 7 days including shipping if manufactured externally.

The paper is relatively cost effective and whilst it would be accessible to cover all walls with paper, the construction would be less appealing. The proposal for the concrete uses the hanging wire across the top. The paper would cost £6 for a roll of white or £8 for colour-matched and fabrication can be overlapped due to the fact that it is only visible from one side. This could be done with Strong PVA Or tape which would cost £5.
If the paper was to require painting to colour-match I would use spay due to its ease of use . It would cost £20 for 2 cans which would each do 5m of paper.
The paper would be colour-matched to the vinyl as it will be manufactured prior to the paper section.
This task would be less time consuming as I have already tested on paper and know how to cut it with a laser cutter. I would use wallpaper grade rolls which can easily be fabricated and the weight wont exceed 5kg.
I have compared paper price to that of rolls available in Make More, A role of Fabriano 200gsm 1.5m long would cost £36 and is too wide for a Laser-cutter. A0 Paper is also marginally larger however can be cut. This is 80p per sheet. I would require 12 pieces of A0 200gsm paper which would cost £9.60 which is significantly more expensive than a roll of paper.
This brings the total cost to £631 and allows me to engage with the manufacture in parts. Including a contingency of 10% would make it £695 due to the manufactured process being accurate.
Whilst installation happens primarily in the space, the key extras will be installing at heights , requiring use of a ladder. This would be required for hanging the wall panel and the tops of the vinyl. For this I would require one persons assistance to stabilise the pieces and aid with the application of vinyl smoothly.

The timeline includes time for testing both vinyl and paper, along with fabrication and installation scenarios. By manufacturing the vinyl this truncates the manufacture process to allow me to focus on my degree show project and allowing me to spend more time in workshops.
