Iteration 1
Using hand blown glass to create an installation based on reflection from my February test installation, I explored the ability of the shapes to refract light. By focusing a spotlight onto the work I was able to record the refractions made on the wall. These to me mimic the idea of the moon and the way light refracts nmaturally in the dark, with the spotlight to me representing the moon and the refractions reflecting the way light dances on the moonlight.
I really enjoy the light refractions which layering glass provides on the wall ,however It does depend on the positioning of the spotlight on where the refractions lie. I would like to contine these installation tests with multiple spotlights annd variations of the glass pieces to understand how the combination of works inform eachother and the refractions made. I also like that the spotlight isnt focused so colour overlap is visible and provides a distorted refraction and colour differenciation in the lighting. This wasnt intentional however i would unlikely be able to use multiple of these lights as they did cost me a lot of money and have limitations in compasison to AV which the university can provide.
Iteration 2
Following on from Feedback from A recent Tutorial, I explored the Importance of positioning of light in my work. The images show the same glass pieces as the dependant and using the spotlight to act as an independant variable (interchangeable) in the perception of light. The spotlight was first directed against the wall, illuminating just the glass, then as it panned down , light refracted through the glass. From above the spotlight highlishted the glass as the focal object without refractions.
I like how the whole piece feels different in all images , making me question wether motion in light will enhance my installation.
The refraction of light provides sculptural diversity to the work. Whilst the glass is interchangeable as a composition, so is the refraction depending on its position in relation to the glass.
I feel these pieces take on a landscape of their own and specifically the image to the left looks like a blooming flower. I would like to compare how having multiple light sources and glass compositions affects the overall landscape of the light.
Following on from evaluation of iteration 2 , I found the piece to lack depth and i was left wanting more in terms of scale. I conceptualised a design for these pieces to be stacked opposite ways to add height and delicacy to the piece. This would enhance the light refraction also.
This may compromise on structural stability but also mimics growths in nature aesthetically blooming from the floor or base.
